Intention and geometry
First I think about the kind of work I want to create. Sometimes they are pieces with a defined geometry; other times, with a symbolism behind them. Then I give space for inspiration to surface by walking, contemplating nature, meditating, and often in the magical space between dream and waking.
This is where I choose the shape of the support that will hold the woven work. I often choose the circular shape as a representation of the containing feminine energy; the circle as a welcoming space where everything is born.
The ritual of matter: wood and metal
I prepare the MDF wooden base: I sand it, apply the primer, sand again, apply the primer again, paint, polish again, paint again... Then I prepare and mark the template, varnish, make the decorations, nail one by one the nails that will hold the threads, and paint them.
The weaving: meditation in movement
I select the threads, the colours and begin to weave. Sometimes it is a direct process; other times, I do and undo, let myself be inspired again, and perhaps new colours or a new pattern I wasn't expecting appear, and I venture and try.
I weave. I observe. I pause. I breathe. I undo. I weave again.
It is a process that respects the organic rhythm of things. It cannot be advanced or accelerated. It is the value of what requires time: time to prepare the base, time to wait for products to dry, time to nail, time to weave, time to rectify,... A precious time for meditation that invites presence.
Along this whole path I open myself to constant redefinition, to changing course according to what emerges, to allowing myself to rectify, to finding new paths, to letting myself be surprised, and to navigating frustration, joy, serenity and uncertainty.
I allow myself to let go of perfection, embracing what is. And I allow myself to weave and unweave, while embracing imperfection and my own humanity. Sacred, divine geometry, made by human hands.
